52 Week Lolita Challenge: 5 pieces that every Lolita wardrobe should have, regardless of style
This week, for the 52 Week Lolita Challenge it’s question number 1; 5 pieces that every Lolita wardrobe should have, regardless of style.
There are a few obvious things I could throw in here like “A petticoat” or “A pair of plain white or black tights”, but I feel like those are so obvious that they would be cheating, so I tried to think a little deeper on it, and here is what I came up with.
- A simple headbow that looks good with your natural hair in your base color
And, when I say simple, I mean simple. Something small, and unassuming, without a lot of details, that looks cute and you don’t need to wear a wig for. If you have a wardrobe where most of your blouses are the same color, pick that color or you can pick the color that you think will match the most in your closet. Now, when you want a casual day, or you have a wig-headache, or you just want to wear something lolita with your non-lolita clothes, you’ve got the perfect little headbow for it. - Floral hair clips
You can be gothic, sweet, country, punk; it doesn’t matter, A few small-to-medium clip in rose hairclips in colors that go with your wardrobe’s colors can class up any outfit. These ones are just a couple bucks at claire’s, and super easy to add them to anything. - A pocket watch necklace
Ok, so it might be easier to pull these off in classic, but there are certainly sweet coords they would work with (anything alice themed for sure), and punk and gothic lolita can pull it off too without too much effort. Aside from looking cute, it’s really handy for well, telling the time. Sometimes, your phone is in the bottom of a bag that’s super cute… but really hard to find things in with your hand covered in lolita rings, and your wrist watch doesn’t look right with your cute wristcuffs, and it’s just nice to have it as an option. This one is from etsy, but they are fairly easy to find these days. - Pearls
No, they don’t have to be real pearls, but a string of pearl beads is a great accessory for just about any style. You can wear them around your neck for sweet, classic, or gothic, or pin them into an elaborate hair style. Drape or pin them to your hat in pirate lolita to add some extra decadence, or pin them to a skirt with punk for extra visual detail. - A Chiffon Blouse
Unless you live somewhere that it super cold year round, there is going to come a time where you want to wear lolita and it’s going to be warm where you will be. Chiffon blouses breathe well, are light and airy, and look amazing. Plus, they require like no ironing at all, which is great for last moment outings. This one is from Meta, but they have been “in” at local stores lately, and you can get them on taobao super cheap from shops that sell business lady attire.
